~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Since 'Justice for Windrush Generations' was established, regular sessions have been held on second and last Sundays of the month - 2pm in UK, as well as well attended bi-monthly rallies at the House of Commons and on Zoom, as well we support other relevant events.
More background on the Windrush scandal and its wider implications:
It seems that from as far back as the 1970s, people from former UK Colonies who had the right to be considered ‘British Citizens’ were wrongly ‘locked out’ from the UK,
.........and they may have the right to compensation for possible unfair treatment.
So, on behalf of the ‘Justice for Windrush Generations’ team we ask:
"Have you, or any family member, or anyone you know, been affected by what is now called the ‘Windrush Scandal’?"
Windrush Scandal 5th Anniversary Candlelit Vigil 6 4 23
“We will always remember the Windrush generation and their descendants.”
Held on Thursday, 6 April 2023, at Windrush Square in Brixton - the gathering was held to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the exposing of the Windrush scandal, to remember those who have been affected by the fallout from the Windrush scandal, and to offer comfort to those who have lost loved ones, whilst not forgetting the journey ahead of us in terms of the equity in social justice.
The vigil was a time of commemoration, remembrance, prayer, motivation, and lighting candles for justice, with campaigners, activists, advocates, victims, faith leaders, survivors & local politicians.
"It is poignant that the Windrush scandal was exposed prior to Windrush 70, and at this time of Windrush 75, we are still seeking justice for the Windrush generation.
However, currently, we see the importance of coming together in order to support each other, and also to commence, that all important healing process by uplifting each other for the journey ahead."
The organisers: Patrick Vernon OBE, Windrush Lives, Friends of Windrush Square, Justice for Windrush Generations, Northampton Windrush Generation and Descendants UK, Glenda Caesar, and The Windrush National Organisation.
